Palmetto Mustang Association

Hickory Hill Stables has had such n overwhelming, positive response from the community on our Mustang Training Program, that we have formed a non-profit organization to promote these wonderful horses.  The organization is in the process of obtaining 501(c)(3) status from the State of South Carolina.  If you are interested in showing your support through volunteering, or tax deductible contributions, please call Karrilynn Savage at 843-209-1171.

 The Palmetto Mustang Association's mission is:

  1. To assist in adopting out BLM wild horses and burros by gentling the animals to the point they can be handled;
  2. To offset the cost of the care of these animals prior to their adoption;
  3. To help offset the cost of transportation of these animals to South Carolina;
  4. To provide scholarships to South Carolina mustang owners to be used to promote the versatility and trainability of theses horses in shows and events;
  5. To help educate the public about mustangs in general.

Working  together with the BLM, the stables will be a "satellite location" where interested individuals can adopt a mustang.  All BLM requirements for adoption will apply.  To learn more about the adoption requirements call 866-4-Mustangs.

 Karrilynn made the final cut!
Of more than 220 applicants nationwide, Karrilynn was the only trainer selected from South Carolina to participate in the Mustang Heritage Foundation's Extreme Mustang MakeoverThis competition was created to show the versatility, trainability of the American Mustang.  100 trainers were randomly assigned 100 wild horses from the state of Nevada (all 3 to 4 years old, all geldings) and given 100 days.  The judges will put all the competitors through a "Horse Course", where the horses will be ridden through common trail obstacles, and show that the horses will go under saddle at a walk, trot and canter.  The horses will also be expected to show good manners in hand, load and unload safely in a horse trailer and have all four feet handled politely. The compteition will be held in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday, September 22.   On Sunday, September 23, all 100 horses will be auctioned with a live competitive bid.  For more information, please use the link listed above.
